About

Dr Sophie Barkl

I am a Clinical Psychologist with over 15 years’ experience in child and adolescent mental health. I hold a Doctor of Clinical Psychology and a PhD from the University of Sydney.

My work focuses on supporting children, parents and families navigating anxiety, trauma, neurodivergence and complex relational difficulties.

I work particularly with families where parenting feels more intense or overwhelming than expected, helping parents to better understand their child’s needs while strengthening their own capacity for regulation and reflection.

Alongside my private practice, I work in a busy public mental health service providing assessment and treatment for children under 12 and their families experiencing moderate to severe mental health difficulties. In this role, I provide clinical supervision to other psychologists and hold a leadership position within the Eastern Suburbs Mental Health Service.

My approach is thoughtful and collaborative. I work alongside children and parents to strengthen relationships, build regulation, and support steady, sustainable growth.
